Birdham Community Speedwatch Group
Birdham Community Speedwatch (CSW) continues to monitor traffic speeds on the village lanes and on the A286, Birdham Straight, with regular roadside sessions.
We are supported in this by a Speed Indicator Device (SID), purchased by the Birdham Parish Council in 2023, which displays to motorists the speed of their vehicle as it approached the SID.
The SID has been approved by WSCC Highways to be located at six sites in the village: Bell Lane (2), Crooked Lane, Church Lane, Siddlesham Lane and on the Birdham straight; it is regularly moved between these sites.
The SID records the number and speed of vehicles and this information is downloaded by the CSW group and posted below.
The information obtained from the SID has been made available to WSCC Highways in support of the village’s application for a speed limit of 20mph on our village lanes. The Traffic Regulation Order application for Birdham was originally submitted in 2023 and we are still waiting to hear whether the application has been successful.
The Birdham Community Speedwatch group is always keen to welcome new members, which will enable more roadside sessions to be undertaken. Full training is provided and endorsed by the West Sussex police force.
If you are interested in joining the group please contact either Mike Evans, (01243 514095), David Thompson (01243 514349) or the Parish Clerk to support the group’s aim to maintain a safe and pleasant environment in our village for all residents.
